My neighborhood always puts together women's relay teams for the Ogden Marathon.
This year I decided to give it a try since I had been running anyway.
Basically, you and 4 other team members run the distance of a marathon
broken up into 5 legs.
It was a beautiful morning,
other than the fact that I had to wake up at 4:50am
and be up in the canyon at 6:15am,
and stew over running 8 miles for 4 hours.
I'm the get-up-and-go type, so this was hard for me.
I was the 4th leg of 5,
but I decided to run the remainder of the race.
Allie passed the baton to me at 10:15am,
and I ran 5 miles down the canyon.
Down was nice. The breeze was blowing. The sun was shining.
The course was right along the raging river and we were surrounded by mountains.
I was running and watching in amazement as
marathoners passed me...a feat I will never even attempt.
At the bottom of the canyon there were spectators cheering us on.
I passed the baton on to Kat, my next door neighbor, near the Dinosaur Park
and continued to run the remaining 3 miles to the finish line.
This part was mostly flat, which is what I trained for.
As I ran that last stretch to the finish line I spotted Janelle (who took the photos)
then trucked my way on across the line.
The last moments made me feel slightly guilty.
So many people were yelling out, "You can do it! You're almost there!".
It seemed cheap that I only ran the last 8, but it was still great to hear.
Our team did fantastic, as well as everyone in the neighborhood.
It was fun to be a part of a relay.
Our goals were just to finish and to have fun,
and I think we accomplished just that.
Next up, the Legacy Midnight Run.
Who's glowing with me?
