Preston informed me just a few days ago that he was leaving town for 2 weeks for work over my favorite holiday (the 4th of July) and asked if me and the kids wanted to come along for the ride. I didn't want to turn town such an offer...35 hours round trip in the car with 2 little ones?....who could pass that up? I guess I couldn't. I hate being alone....sleeping alone, eating alone, watching TV alone. But then again, I'm never really "alone". What I'm saying is I do love me some adult companionship. 2 weeks alone here, taking care of 2 small children around the clock, doesn't sound like a great way to spend the summer or the holiday. So, we're leaving today on our journey.
The first stop will be Orem for a little vacay with our friends, The Adams. Vacation in Orem, you say? Yep. We decided that getting out of our houses and into a hotel to swim and eat out, even if it is just minutes from our homes, is definitely a vacation.
The next stop will be back to our old stompin' grounds....Bakersfield, California, for Preston to do some more ice cream concocting.
...and to see a little bit of this...Are you jealous yet?
To eat a little bit of this...Now I know you are jealous.
And to hopefully witness a large chunk of this...I just pray it goes better than it did the last time we were in California on the 4th of July.
Then we're crossing almost half of the country by rental car so Preston can do some more work in Fort Morgan, Colorado. What's that you say?...you've never heard of Fort Morgan before? That's because it's best attraction is this...a bridge.
I guess if it doesn't have a lot of hot tourist spots or kiddie activities, we could always shop. All cities have a mall, right? Well, no. When you search for "Fort Morgan, Colorado, shopping" on yahoo, you only find a Walmart listed. When you read the Fort Morgan Walmart's review on yahoo, someone called it "White Trash Beautiful". I think I've come up with a new name for every Walmart across America. Doesn't "White Trash Beautiful" describe it so well? I guess our days in Colorado will have to consist of swimming at the hotel and visiting the local library (and maybe crossing a bridge?).
Then we will return home.
I'm excited to go on this little adventure. I've always loved road trips and sleeping in hotels. I just can't get enough of clean sheets, crankin' the A/C on someone else's dime, dirtyin' up someone else's area, eating out every meal, and so on. But I'm just a little bit afraid about ruining it's special place in my heart by hauling a 2.5 year old and a 4 month old along. Will it lose it's magic? Will my children really sleep when we're all in one room? Stay tuned...

You are waaay too funny! We hope to see you in Bakersfield on the 4th o July! I will call you next week!
Sounds like fun...and yes, I've been to Ft. Morgan several times. I guess that's me for you, I seem to make it to most towns people would rather pass by. Rusty's bro lives there, and you have to cross THE bridge to get to his house. There is a nice swimming pool and lots of ducks at the park. Good luck, can't wait to hear about the sleep or lack thereof.
Have lots of fun!!!
You crack me up!
You did make me jealous of the In n Out....YUM! Eat one for me!
Can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back!! :)
hey, remember, not supposed to say things like "i'm gone for 2 weeks" on your blog.
I am a lot like you in that I LOVE road trips, eating out, sleeping in hotels, etc. Nothing better! I hope you are having a great trip!
