wild goose chase

We arrived in Fort Morgan, Colorado, after a long, but beautiful drive through the Rocky Mountains. My sister and her kids arrived just after us, and Henry was so extremely excited to have friends to play with! He ran the hotel room, laughing and bouncing around for a few hours, and we had trouble getting him to go to bed by midnight. I can only imagine the freedom and joy that he felt once he was released from his car seat after a 16 hour trek from California.

Our first morning here we woke up and decided to tour the town. That took us all of 5 minutes. There really isn't much. Even that bridge I posted about turned out to be a pretty lame attraction (think old, rundown, and no longer in use). We all cheered when we saw a Sonic (Happy Hour, anyone?) and about cried when we realized the drive in movie was only open on the weekends (we were really looking forward to this). My nephew resorted himself to the hotel for World of Warcraft out of utter boredom, while the rest of us took a trip to the duck pond (Thanks for the tip, Anne!).

A typical trip to the local duck pond is pretty laid back. Well, not this one. We pulled into the park, parked the van, grabbed our bread from the "White Trash Beautiful" Super Walmart, and headed over to the water. The ducks were all happily swimming and frolicking near the water's edge. When they saw us with the bread they all began honking and running for us. We broke and tossed the bread, they ate, and continued wildly waddling toward us. They were attacking! These weren't just ducks, afterall, they were some darn hungry geese! Out of shear panic we ran toward the playground, half tempted to run up the steps to the slide if the geese didn't relent. Luckily, they did. After some serious laughter over this rare event, we made a plan. We armed ourselves with a slice of bread each, approached the wild honkers, threw the broken bread chunks, and ran for our lives. The geese continued to eat, run and attack. We continued to laugh and follow through with our plan again and again...As you can see by Henry's running stance, he knew just what to do when the geese attacked...The highlight of Fort Morgan has definitely been these wild geese. E-I-E-I-O

Last Friday I had to give Preston a ride to work.

It was just me and my trio in Salt Lake, so I decided to take advantage and do something fun.

I remember hitting Wheeler Farm as a teen, mostly to country line dance in the barn,

but I knew my kids would love all of the farm happenings outside the barn.

We started off by buying duck food.

Those ducks and geese were HUNGRY!

It was another wild goose chase, just like the one we had 4 years ago in Colorado.

The kids would throw the food then have to back up as the ducks approached.

Stella was a little apprehensive at first but she warmed up.

After we feed/got eaten by the ducks we wandered the farm.

The kids found a treehouse they wanted to play in.

Then it was time for our wagon ride.

Henry wanted to take some photos on the ride and got some cute ones of Stellie that I love...

Those braided piggies get me all smily every time!

We stopped to see the tractor shed...

But did NOT feed the horses...

It was nearing 100 degrees and we were all hot and thirsty...

They each picked a refreshing treat at the corner store and ate it in the outhouse...

It's not every day that you get to eat in the bathroom!

I had a great day with just my kiddos!  It's a rarity to go somewhere by ourselves and just go at our own pace and beat to our own drum.  It was a nice outing.

Now if we can just get them to quit asking to buy a pet every day!

I think we have enough hair and poo to deal with around this Pond Farm!
