the elf on the shelf

Honestly, each and every one of you need to run out today and buy an Elf on the Shelf. It's a cute antique-looking elf that comes with a storybook. The Elf sits at your house all day and watches the kids and reports back to Santa Claus at the North Pole at night on whether or not they were good or bad (it's all explained in the storybook). Then the next morning when you wake up he is back at your house but in a new watching spot. Without fail, Henry runs around the house every single morning at 7am hunting down Oliver (he's been found on a shelf, on the fridge, peeking out of a stocking, hanging on the Christmas lights, etc.). You must name your elf, and we chose Oliver because Oliver was supposed to be one of our boy's names, but the hubby nixed it....so why not make it the elf's name that visits our home every December?
If a child misbehaves you say, "Oliver is watching you....", and usually, you don't have to deal with much more resistance after that. See, I told you that you must get one today (Barnes & Noble has them).

Timothy was so excited to learn that an elf is at your house too! He's decided that Oliver and Rupert must travel back to the North Pole together every night and then back to our neighborhood together in the morning. Everything's more fun with a friend, right? This is our 2nd year with this tradition and it's definitely one of our favorites!

I love that. We have been looking for some good Christmas books to read every year and that one is such a fun idea.

We had one of those orignal elf's growing up. My parents got it the year they were married in 1967...it was our favorite thing as kiddos! Even as an adult, it's the first thing I'd look for at my parents house! Last year they gave us one...it's been great to pass that tradition on to my kiddos!

Glad that your family loves it too!!! :)

I need to instill that, I've heard about him, in addition to the Iphone app, where you get messages from Santa.....pretty tricky. I HOPE it's helping Henry and James be on the NICE list!!!!
