You're my friend and I love you, but not too much.

So we made it to New York! For one reason or another I was blessed with a total angel on the 4 hour plane ride! Henry watched movies, ate snacks, and played with his Thomas the Train sticker book the entire time....no crying or whining! It was nothing short of a miracle! I was able to read my book and watch a little TV myself.

We are staying with my sister in Manhattan. She lives in a nice area, and we've walked around quite a bit. I ventured out to McDonald's and Gymboree my first day alone with a 4 year old and a 2 year old. It's rough to inspire a 4 year old to walk 15 blocks in a day, but we made it. This weekend we got on the Subway to go to the Bronx Zoo, and let me tell you, whoever said that New York was kid-friendly was wrong!!! It is absolutely impossible to get a kid, a diaper bag, yourself and a stroller down the large flight of stairs, through a tiny turnstyle, down another flight of stairs, and onto a train!!! I've gotten some of the best workouts of my life! The zoo was great, but getting there and back was another story!

Henry loves having a permanent playmate in his cousin, Cole. They get along pretty good. It's hard to explain to a 4 year old that a 2 year old doesn't completely understand everything you say and still throws toys or hits from time to time. But, we're working on it. On the way home from the zoo we overheard Cole say to Henry, "You're my friend, and I love you, but not too much". I got a good laugh out of that one. I think he enjoys having Henry as a playmate, but doesn't like that he has to share his toys and gets picked on every once in awhile. It's a love/hate relationship, I guess.

The other night Cole got out his bat, ball, and hat...and pretty soon Henry came running out of Cole's bedroom with all of the above too. They are pretty good friends and play well together...but not too much!

Oh yeah, a stroller and the subway are definitely not a good combo! I think all the people who say NYC is kid-friendly usually take cabs. Isn't the Bronx zoo fun though?
