piles

I have this nightly ritual where I walk around the entire house and try to put everything back where it goes....toys, dishes, blankets, food, clothes, etc. I find just about everything in the wrong place. Most things I can just put back in their "home", but when it comes to stuff from the boys' rooms I don't risk waking them up...I just make a pile outside of their doors to put back in the morning.

I was doing this the other night and started laughing because I had a roommate in college that would get mad at me for this very thing. My roommates were lovely, fun and a joy to be with, but not many of them knew how to clean up after themselves. I became the mother that did the picking up, just so I could function. I can't function in clutter and filth. So when I found their junk (books, clothes, keys, etc.) laying around in random places that cluttered my mind I would put them in a nice pile just outside their door. I wasn't meaning to send the message that "I hate that you are messy" but more "These are yours, and I want you to have them. Consider me the gatherer". Anyways, I'm still friends with all of them so I think no harm was done.

I often wonder do they make piles outside of their children's doors now?.....I'm thinking so.

LOL I know what you mean. I think I might try "toy jail" in a year or two when the same toy gets left out over and over. Reminds me of Mr. Mom when she wakes up in the morning, and the first thing she's doing is picking up handfuls of laundry and toys and putting them in the right room.

Would you mind coming over to my house to make some piles? There are piles that need to be made!

I do this too!! It makes starting a new day so much easier and less stressful.

I pile it on the stairs and then they have to put it away. The good part is then they have to put away some of my stuff too.
