desperate times call for desperate measures

I went to the grocery store this morning and was in utter shock at the prices of some of the food items.  The block of cream cheese I needed for a Halloween side dish was on SALE for $3.00!!!!  Wasn't a block of cream cheese on sale for $1.00 just a month ago?  I thought maybe it was a joke, but as I strolled toward the cheese section I spotted a small store-brand bag of shredded cheese for $4.00!!! What is happening?  Are cows a hot commodity these days?  I guess so because the milkman only left me one 1/2 gallon this morning in my milk box, instead of my usual delivery of 2.  $80 later, I left the grocery store with what felt like enough to make 2 meals and 2 desserts.

The shock still hasn't worn off.  I have 2 options to deal with these high food prices.

1- Keep eating out.  Honestly, Henry and I can eat the most delicious meal you could ever taste at Cafe Rio for under $6, and that includes a beverage.  Do I buy 2 blocks of cream cheese or 1 perfectly delectable meal at Cafe Rio?  Hmmm....

2- Shop at Super Walmart.  I may save a few bucks, but I would also lose my dignity and the affection of my husband and father.  And possible get mugged on the way out.  Then I wouldn't have saved at all.

LOL yes it's getting bad. You do realize that you insult the rest of us who do shop at Walmart, don't you?

I know, Mandi. I'm cruel. I just hate that darn store but am very attracted to their prices. My dad always taught me that that evil store was bringing down the local ma and pa shops and his very own JCP. And, I'M insulted by most of the people that shop there at 9pm at night. Sorry. I'll try to take it easy on Walmart for awhile. Carry on.

Eat out. I seriously think it's cheaper when you have small children who don't eat what you make them anyway! And have I mentioned lately how much I hate you for having a Cafe Rio near you?

Isn't it so true? I'm glad that you are noticing it too, because I thought that perhaps it was because I had just never paid attention to the costs much before. But I admit -- I LOVE Wal-Mart. :)

I love Wal-Mart and I am not ashamed to admit it. Anytime I shop elsewhere I have to leave because the prices are so much higher. We have a nice, brand new one right by our house and I love it! I must say, as much as I love Wal-Mart the Cafe Rio option sounds better.

I'd recommend eating out over shopping at Wal-Mart any time. That place is horrible.

Another reason to move to KS, our cream cheese was $1.89, and the off brand was $1.00 last night, maybe we our just running behind on inflation, probably.

I'm with you, what's up with that????? AND, I swear you can eat out cheaper and of course better in my case, for less than actually making a meal at home, about 1/2 the time!!!!!!! :) And I HATE Wal-mart, I get a headache just thinking about it!!!!
