Just a Dad

I can't fail to mention my dad this Father's Day season. He's the epitome of hard work, patience, understanding and dedication. Living with 5 women under one roof had to have been pretty tough, but he's always worn fatherhood with pride.

You have to read the cutest poem he wrote to recite at my wedding luncheon.

"Just a Dad"

When I grew up I didn't want to be a fireman, policeman, or executive.
I would be happy and forever glad if I could be Just a Dad.

The pressure mounts as you grow old- marriage, kids, house, cars, doctors, dentists, college...bills galore.
If that isn't enough to make you snore. Just a Dad, nothing more.

Winner, loser, what's the score? We endured, pushed on for more.
But in the end, the final score is not so bad. Chalk one up, another day for "Just a Dad".

Gymnastics, cheerleading, basketball, softball, and diving.
Sports we traveled in barely surviving.

The money comes, the money goes. To raise four girls, what a chore.
But I'm content and forever glad for the boring title of Just a Dad.

Three weddings passed, one more to go, my bank account's never been so low.
But what the heck, don't get mad, caused you caused it- Just a Dad.

When God calls on Judgement Day, I will stand at St. Peter's gate. As they review my life of sin and ask; "Let you in? What for?"
A fax arrives marked urgent as four girls and a mom. Let him in ? What for? I'll reply, "Just a Dad, nothing more!".

You lived your dreams, you never were sad.
It was a lot of fun for "Just a Dad".

Reincarnate? What would you be?
I would be happy and glad if forever I could remembered as Just a Dad.
