We awoke to presents galore. Santa overspent this year...or maybe I should say Mrs. Claus overspent. Henry played the morning away with his new trains and train table from his grandparents in Chicago, and barely noticed that Santa left him an extra large talking Lightning McQueen, a Tonka dump trunk and a Radio Flyer scooter. I knew that would be the case because he could spend hours at Barnes and Noble or any toy store just playing with the train table sets.
While I cooked, Preston made a homemade sledding hill from the previous day's snow in our front yard. He makes for a really fun daddy. Henry had a hayday flying down it, until he had a little spill and his hands were frozen. After a morning full of playing and a good nap for Henry, Preston's parents, sister and her hubby came over for the infamous Pond chicken haystacks. We then unwrapped quite the stash from the Pond parents and finished the evening with the lights at temple square. We decided that Christmas night is the time to go because it wasn't very busy, and there really is never much to do once it's dark anyways. It just may have to be an annual tradition for us now. We had a great day! I thought that Henry was way too young to understand most of the holiday, but he did surprise me with a few of his realizations. On Christmas Eve he told me that Santa would bring him "pezents", and many times over the past month he has really grown a liking for the Baby Jesus in our Fisher Price Nativity Set. He's at such a fun age where he's really starting to figure things out. Maybe next year he will be teaching his younger sibling about the fluff and the true meaning of Christmas.
Now we are in Chicago celebrating with my family. This Christmas stuff never seems to end....
